The kingdom of God is not yet (Part 1)

May 11, 2008

The first words spoken about Jesus – remain unfulfilled
Luke 1:31-33 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. 32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: 33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.

Christ will appear a second time
Hebrews 9:28 so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.

Christ came first to preach the kingdom of God not set it up
Luke 4:43 but He [Jesus] said to them, "I must preach the kingdom of God to the other cities also, because for this purpose I have been sent."

At hand does not mean it came!
Matthew 4:17 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

Mark 1:14-15 Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, 15 And saying,  The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.

A disciple of Christ was still waiting for kingdom of God
Mark 15:43 Joseph of Arimathaea, an honourable counsellor, which also waited for the kingdom of God, came, and went in boldly unto Pilate, and craved the body of Jesus.

Jesus refused to be made king at His first appearing
John 6:15 Therefore when Jesus perceived that they were about to come and take Him by force to make Him king, He departed again to the mountain by Himself alone.

The kingdom of God is preached not established
Luke 16:16 The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it.

Disciples are to pray:  Thy kingdom come!
Matthew 6:10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

The world kingdoms presently belong to the devil
Luke 4:5-6 And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. 6 And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.

Christ’s kingdom is not of this world
John 18:36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence [“my kingdom is not hereBBE].

Two Thrones: Christ is not ruling on His throne at this time
Revelation 3:21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

Christ is waiting at the right hand of God
Hebrews 10:12-13 But this Man (Jesus Christ), after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God (on His Father’s throne), 13 from that time (at His ascension) waiting till  (no time sooner) His enemies are made His footstool (on His own throne - ruling).

Psalm 110:1  The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

He must remain in heaven until the time…
Acts 3:21 He (Jesus) must remain in heaven (on His Father’s throne) until the time comes for God to restore everything, as he promised long ago through his holy prophets.

When the kingdom is restored to Israel
Acts 1:6 “…Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?"

Christ rules from His throne when He comes in His glory
Matthew 25:31-32,34 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: 32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: 33And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. 34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

He promised His overcomers co-rulership
Revelation 2:26-27 And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations: 27 And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.

Christ will literally fulfill Psalm 2
Revelation 12:5 And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.

At His future second appearing
Revelation 19:11,15-16 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. 15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. 16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

No reigning for us in this present world
1 Corinthians 4:8 Now ye are full, now ye are rich, ye have reigned as kings without us: and I would to God ye did reign, that we also might reign with you.

The reign of the saints is future
1 Corinthians 6:2 Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?

The kingdom of God is our future inheritance
1 Corinthians 6:9  Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God?

Our place in this present world
1 Corinthians 4:9-13 For I think that God hath set forth us the apostles last, as it were appointed to death: for we are made a spectacle unto the world, and to angels, and to men.   10 We are fools for Christ’s sake, but ye are wise in Christ; we are weak, but ye are strong; ye are honourable, but we are despised. 11 Even unto this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no certain dwellingplace; 12 And labour, working with our own hands: being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it: 13 Being defamed, we intreat: we are made as the filth of the world, and are the offscouring of all things unto this day.

Our present bodies cannot inherit the kingdom of God
1 Corinthians 15:50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.

We shall be changed at the last trump
1 Corinthians 15:51-52 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

Christ returns to the earth at the last trump
1 Thessalonians 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
At that time the kingdoms of the world become Christ’s
Revelation 11:15 And the seventh angel sounded [the last of seven trumpets Rev.8:2]; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.
