The Gospel Is Not In Word Only But Power!
August 29, 2010
1 Thessalonians 1:5-10 For our gospel came not unto you in word only,
but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake. 6 And ye became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost: 7 So that ye were ensamples to all that believe in Macedonia and Achaia. 8 For from you sounded out the word of the Lord not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith to God-ward is spread abroad; so that we need not to speak any thing. 9 For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God; 10 And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which is delivering us from the wrath to come.
1 Corinthians 4:17-19 For this cause have I sent unto you Timotheus, who is my beloved son, and faithful in the Lord, who shall bring you into remembrance of my ways which be in Christ, as I teach every where in every church. 18 Now some are puffed up, as though I would not come to you. 19 But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord will, and will know, not the speech of them which are puffed up, but the power. 20 For the kingdom of God [the gospel] is not in word [only], but in power.
Psalm 78:41-42 Yes, again and again they tempted God, And limited the Holy One of Israel. 42 They did not remember His power: The day when He redeemed them from the enemy,
Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
Philippians 1:27 Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ
1 Corinthians 1:18 For the preaching of the cross [that is the gospel] is to them that perish foolishness [it does nothing for them - it is just words]; but unto us which are [being] saved it is the power of God.
Ephesians 1:18-19 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened [to the gospel of your salvation, 1:13]]; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints [the gospel], 19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, 20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places.
Acts 19:18-19 And many who had believed [the gospel] came confessing and telling their deeds [evil deeds NIV]. 19 Also, many of those who had practiced magic brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all. And they counted up the value of them, and it totaled fifty thousand pieces of silver. 20 So mightily grew the word of God [the gospel] and prevailed [power].
2 Timothy 1:8 Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;
2 Timothy 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
