To Be Found In Christ - Part 2
September 06, 2009
That I may be found in him
Philippians 3:8-9 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, 9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:
Paul was at one time not in Christ
Romans 16:7 Salute Andronicus and Junia, my kinsmen, and my fellowprisoners, who are of note among the apostles, who also were in Christ before me
Local churches in Christ
Galatians 1:22 And was unknown by face unto the churches of Judaea which were in Christ:
New Covenant with His church
Luke 22:20 "This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you [the apostles – represent the church].
The church was in existence before Pentecost
Acts 2:37,41,47 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Men and brethren, what shall we do?" 41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.
The church is the body of Christ
Colossians 1:18 And he [Jesus Christ] is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.
Colossians 1:24 Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body’s sake, which is the church:
Church and body are used interchangeably
1 Corinthians 12:18 But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased.
1 Corinthians 12:28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.
Ephesians 5:23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
Ephesians 5:29-30 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church. 30 For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones
Each church is the body of Christ
1 Corinthians 12:27 Now ye [the church at Corinth] are the body of Christ, and members in particular.
Christ is the head of every man
1 Corinthians 11:3 “…that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.
One body in Christ
Romans 12:4 For just as we have many members in one body [the human body] and all the members do not have the same function, 5 so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.
One body = united bodies (plural)
1 Corinthians 6:16 What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh.
The churches of Galatia were united in Christ
Galatians 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye [churches (plural) of Galatia 1:2] are all one in Christ Jesus.
Baptized into Christ
Galatians 3:27-29 For as many of you [in the churches of Galatia 1:2] as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ [no longer live according to our lust]. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you [in the churches of Galatia 1:2] are all one [in unity] in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you are Christ's [if you belong to Christ Nas], then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
Christ is the seed of Abraham
Galatians 3:16 Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, "And to seeds," as of many, but as of one, "And to your Seed," who is Christ.
The church in Rome was the body of Christ
Romans 7:4 Therefore, my brethren, you also have become dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you may be married to another -- to Him [to Christ] who was raised from the dead, that we should bear fruit to God.
Married to Christ
Ephesians 5:28-32 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. 29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: 30 For we [the church, the faithful in Christ] are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. 31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. 32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
Baptized into Christ
Romans 6:3 Or do you not know that as many of us as were [in the past] baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?
The church at Corinth was the body of Christ
1 Corinthians 12:27 Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.
In Christ
1 Corinthians 1:2 “Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, … in Christ Jesus…”
Baptized into one body
1 Corinthians 12:13 For in one spirit [the spirit of unity – oneness in doctrine, see Phil. 1:27] we were [in the past] all baptized into one body -- whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free -- and have all been made to drink into one spirit [unity and oneness around the Lord's table for the Corinthians].
No division in the body
1 Corinthians 12:25 That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another.
To be found in Christ is a work of God
1 Corinthians 1:30 But by His doing you [“the church of God which is at Corinth,” 1:2] are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption
1 Corinthians 12:18 But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased.
