The Fear Of The Lord Is A Fountain Of Life

Proverbs 14:27 The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

 
A fountain of life has its benefits
Psalm 36:7-9 How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings. 8 They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures. 9 For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light.
 
Revelation 21:6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.
 
The early churches walked in a fountain of life
Acts 9:31 Then had the churches rest throughout all Judaea and Galilee and Samaria, and were edified; and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost, were multiplied.
Psalm 89:7 God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints
 
The fear of the Lord defined
The fear of the Lord is a continual conscious awareness that God is watching me – that everyone of my motives, my thoughts, my words and my actions are before the eyes of the Lord!
 
Joseph is our example
Genesis 39:7-12 And it came to pass after these things that his master's wife cast longing eyes on Joseph, and she said, "Lie with me." 8 But he refused and said to his master's wife, "Look, my master does not know what is with me in the house, and he has committed all that he has to my hand. 9 "There is no one greater in this house than I, nor has he kept back anything from me but you, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?" 10 So it was, as she spoke to Joseph day by day, that he did not heed her, to lie with her or to be with her. 11 But it happened about this time, when Joseph went into the house to do his work, and none of the men of the house was inside, 12 that she caught him by his garment, saying, "Lie with me." But he left his garment in her hand, and fled and ran outside.

The benefits of the fountain of life – the fear of the Lord
 
1) Power over sin
 
Proverbs 14:27 The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.
 
Proverbs 16:6 By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.
 
Job 1:1 There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was blameless and upright, one who feared God, and turned away from evil.
 
Exodus 20:20 And Moses said to the people, "Do not fear; for God has come to prove you, and that the fear of Him may be before your eyes, [Why?] that you may not sin." (RSV)
 
2) It give us a hatred toward evil things
 
Proverbs 8:13 The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.
 
3) Enlightenment
 
Job 28:28 And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.
 
Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. 
 
Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
 
Proverbs 15:33 The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.
 
Psalm 25:14 The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant. 
 
4) The Lord watches over you
 
Psalm 33:18 Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy;
 
5) Strong confidence
 
Proverbs 14:26 In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.
 
6) The Lord takes notice of you
 
Isaiah 66:2 For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.
 
7) The Lord keeps a record concerning you
 
Malachi 3:16 Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name
 
8) God’s great goodness is upon you
 
Psalm 31:19 Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men!
 
9) An abundance of mercy
 
Psalm 103:11 For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him.
 
Psalm 103:13 Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him
 
Psalm 103:17 But the mercy of the LORD isfrom everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children
 
10) All sufficiency and contentment
 
Psalm 34:9 O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him.
 
Proverbs 15:16 Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith.
 
Psalm 145:19 He will fulfil the desire of them that fear him: he also will hear their cry, and will save them.
 
11) Daily necessities provided
 
Psalm 111:5 He provides food for those who fear him; he is ever mindful of his covenant.
 
12) Days shall be add to your life
 
Deuteronomy 6:2 That thou mightest fear the LORD thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son’s son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged.
 
Proverbs 10:27 The fear of the LORD prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.
 
13) Happiness
 
Proverbs 28:14 Happy is the man in whom is the fear of the Lord at all times (BBE).
 
14) A truly satisfying life
 
Proverbs 19:23 The fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil [“untouched by evil” NAS].
 
15) Divine Protection
 
Psalm 34:7 The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.
 
16) No fear of man
 
Matthew 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
 
Exodus 1:17,20-21 But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive. 20Therefore God dealt well with the midwives: and the people multiplied, and waxed very mighty. 21 And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, that he made them houses.
 
17) Deliverance from all your enemies
 
2 Kings 17:39 But the LORD your God ye shall fear; and he shall deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies.
 
18) Salvation
 
Psalm 85:9 Surely his salvation is nigh them that fear him; that glory may dwell in our land.
 
Acts 13:26 Men and brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and whosoever among you feareth God, to you is the word of this salvation sent.
 
19) The inheritance
 
Psalm 61:5 For Thou hast heard my vows, O God; Thou hast given me the inheritance of those who fear Thy name.
 
20) Riches, and honour, and life
 
Proverbs 22:4 By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life.
 
21) You shall receive praise
 
Proverbs 31:30 Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.
 
22) True worship
 
Psalm 5:7 But as for me, I will come into thy house in the multitude of thy mercy: and in thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple. 
 
23) A testimony of the truth
 
Psalm 60:4 Thou hast given a banner to them that fear thee, that it may be displayed because of the truth. Selah.
 
24) God is pleased with us
 
Psalm 147:10-11 He delighteth not in the strength of the horse: he taketh not pleasure in the legs of a man. 11 The LORD taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy.
