The Text: Titus 2:3-5 The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; 4 That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, 5 To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

the Woman is to be in subject to the male

AUTHORITY IN the church

1 Timothy 2:11-14 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. 12 And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence (NKJ). 13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve. 14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. 15 Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.

THE CONTEXT IS THE LOCAL CHURCH

1 Timothy 3:15 But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

TO ALL MEN & WOMEN IN THE CHURCH

1 Timothy 2:8-10 I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting. 9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; 10 But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.

FALSE DOCTRINE AT EPHESUS

1 Timothy 1:3-4 As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine, 4 Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.

ATTACK ON traditional MARRIAGE ROLES

Paul’s counsel to the women

1 Timothy 5:14-15 I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully. 15 For some are already turned aside after Satan.

False teachers promise women liberty

2 Peter 2:19 While they (false teachers, 2:1) promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.

A womens role in the authority of

the local church

WHY?

Priority in creation order

1 Timothy 2:13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve.

eve was deceived by taking the lead

1 Timothy 2:14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.

The woman’s desire is to take control

Genesis 3:16 Unto the woman he (God) said (in judgment not a blessing but a curse), I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.

the woman is dominated by the man

Saved by childbearing “if”

1 Timothy 2:15 Notwithstanding she (the woman) shall be saved (into the kingdom) in through or by childbearing (submitting to her role), if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.
