Suffering: A Privilage

September 25, 2005

BOTH COME FROM THE HAND OF GOD
Ecclesiastes 7:14  In the day of prosperity be joyful, but in the day of adversity consider: God also hath set the one over against the other, to the end that man should find nothing after him.

CHRIST IS OUR EXAMPLE – FOLLOW HIS STEPS
1 Peter 2:21  For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: 22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: 23 Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; [Lived righteously] but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously: [ Lived by Faith]

SUFFERING THEN GLORY
Luke 24:25-26 Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: 26  Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?

IF WE SUFFER WITH HIM THEN WE MAY BE GLORIFIED
Romans 8:17  And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs [rulership] with Christ; if so be that we suffer [Present Active] with him, that we may [Subj] be also glorified together.

THROUGH MUCH TRIBULATION ENTER THE KINGDOM
Acts 14:22  Confirming [strengthen] the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must [necessary, Present tense] through much[many, plenteous] tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

OUR TREASURE – THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE GLORY
2 Corinthians 4:7  But we have this treasure [Knowledge of the Glory v6] in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.

SUFFERINGS OF CHRIST
Isaiah 53:3-7  He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: ... he was despised, and we esteemed him not.   5  But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.  7  He was oppressed, and he was afflicted,.....

PAUL'S SUFFERINGS
2 Corinthians 11:24-28  Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one.  25  Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep;  26  In journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren;  27  In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness.  28  Beside those things that are without, that which cometh upon me daily, the care of all the churches.

SUFFERINGS AGAINST  FLESH,SIN,DESIRES
1 Peter 4:1  Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;2  That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.

SUFFERING FOR LIVING GODLY LIVES
2 Timothy 3:12  Yea, and all that will [desire] live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

SELF-CAUSED SUFFERINGS
1 Peter 4:15  But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters.

SUFFERING FOR WELL DOING IS WELL PLEASING TO GOD
1 Peter 2:20  For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults [Sins], ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently[to stay under], this is acceptable[Pleasing] with God.

THINK IT NOT STRANGE
1 Peter 4:12  Beloved [called, choosen], think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:

BUT RATHER ARM OURSELVES WITH THIS MIND
1 Peter 4:1  Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: . . . .

SUFFERING IS PAINFUL
1 Peter 1:6  Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold [various, many, different, all Kinds] temptations:

SUFFERING IS A PRIVILEGE
Philippians 1:29  For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe [Faith] on him, but also to suffer [Present active] for his sake;

SUFFERINGS – LIGHT, FOR A MOMENT
2 Corinthians 4:17  For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;

REJOICING IN THE HOPE IN MIDST OF SUFFERING
1 Peter 4:13  But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.

DO NOT BE ASHAMED
1 Peter 4:16  Yet if any man suffer as a Christian [follows christ's Footsteps], let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.
THIS IS  FAITH
1 Peter 4:19  Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.

DON'T GIVE UP
2 Corinthians 4:16  For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.

FIX YOUR EYES ON UNSEEN REALITY
2 Corinthians 4:18  While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

WE SUFFER AS A TESTIMONY, AS A WITNESS
1 Corinthians 4:9  For I think that God hath set forth us the apostles last, as it were appointed to death: for we are made a spectacle [on stage, theater] unto the world, and to angels, and to men.

SANCTIFY THE LORD AND GIVE EVIDENCE OF THE HOPE IN YOU
1 Peter 3:14-15  But and if ye suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled;  15  But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

SUFFERINGS FOR CHRIST WILL BRING US TO GLORY
Romans 8:18  For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

APPROVED AT THE JUDGMENT SEAT
1 Peter 5:10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal[age lasting] glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.

APPROVED FAITH WILL RECEIVE PRAISE, HONOUR AND GLORY
1 Peter 1:7  That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing[Coming]of Jesus Christ
