God established marriage at the beginning
Matthew 19:4-6 And He (Jesus) answered and said to them, "Have you not read that He (God) who made them at the beginning 'made them male and female,' 5 "and said, 'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'? 6 "So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate."(NKJ)
Marriage should be honoured
Hebrews 13:4 Marriage is honourable (adjective) in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers [or fornicators] and adulterers God will judge.
God created man: MALE AND FEMALE
Genesis 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
Man was created first
Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
1 Timothy 2:13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve.
Man is positioned over the woman
1 Corinthians 11:3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.
Ephesians 5:22-23Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
Man “alone” is incomplete
Genesis 2:18 And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.
Two are better than one
Ecclesiastes 4:9 Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour.
Younger ladies are encouraged to marry
1 Timothy 5:14 I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.
Teaching against marriage is of the devil
1 Timothy 4:1,3 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.
animals cannot complete man
Genesis 2:19-20 And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. 20 And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.
The woman was made from Adam’s side
Genesis 2:21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; 22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
The woman was made for the man
1 Corinthians 11:8-9 For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man. 9 Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man.
To be his help meet
Genesis 2:18 And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.
A divinely enabled help meet
Psalm 33:20 Our soul waiteth for the LORD: he is our help [or help meet] and our shield.
Marriage begins
Genesis 2:23-25 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. 24 Therefore shall a man (the husband) leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh (sexual union). 25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.
Marriage is a covenant
Malachi 2:14 “…the LORD has been witness between you and the wife of your youth, With whom you have dealt treacherously; yet she is your companion And your wife by covenant.
Proverbs 2:17 Which (the adulteress women) forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God.
As Christ and the church
Ephesians 5:31-32 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. 32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
A vow unto the Lord
Numbers 30:2 If a man vow a vow unto the LORD, or swear an oath to bind his soul with a bond; he shall not break his word, he shall do according to all that proceedeth out of his mouth.
Ecclesiastes 5:4 When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it (fulfill it); for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay (fulfill) that which thou hast vowed.
One flesh through having sex
1 Corinthians 6:16 What? know ye not that he which is joined (by sexual intercourse) to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh.
The passion of sex is for marriage only
1 Corinthians 7:2 Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.
in marriage, a sex life is essential
1 Corinthians 7:3 The husband should not deprive his wife of sexual intimacy, which is her right as a married woman, nor should the wife deprive her husband. 4 The wife gives authority over her body to her husband, and the husband also gives authority over his body to his wife. 5 So do not deprive each other of sexual relations. The only exception to this rule would be the agreement of both husband and wife to refrain from sexual intimacy for a limited time, so they can give themselves more completely to prayer. Afterward they should come together again so that Satan won't be able to tempt them because of their lack of self-control. (NLT)
procreation
Genesis 1:27-28 “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. 28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth...”
Marriage is the basis of the family
Deuteronomy 6:6-7 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: 7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
Ephesians 6:4 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
How long does marriage last?
Romans 7:2-3 For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband. 3 So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.
Marriage is permanent
Matthew 19:6 Jesus said, "So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate."
