October 15, 2006
jESUS DIVIDED Israel
Acts 28:17,23-24 "...that after three days Paul called the chief of the Jews together: 23 And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening. 24 And some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not.
ISRAEL WITHIN ISRAEL
Romans 9:6 Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they (“Israelites,” v.4) are not all Israel (the elect, Abraham’s true seed), which are of Israel (after the flesh):
Israel after the flesh
1 Corinthians 10:18 Behold Israel after the flesh: are not they which eat of the sacrifices partakers of the altar?
THE REMNANT
Romans 9:27 Isaiah also cries out concerning Israel: "Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea (a very large number), The remnant (a small number) will be saved (from being cast into outer darkness, Mt.8:11).
A Remnant ACCORDING TO ELECTION
Romans 11:5 Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant (a small part) according to the election of grace.
The true seed of Abraham
John 8:31 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, "If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.
A true Israel
John 1:47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and exclaimed, “Look, a true Israelite in whom there is no deceit!”
The Messiah’s sheep follow him
John 10:27-29My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28 And I give unto them eternal age-lasting or kingdom life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. 29 My Father, which gave them to me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.
a majority of Israel lost the kingdom OF GOD
Matthew 21:43,45 "Therefore [on account of their refusing to receive Him] I say to you (“the chief priests and the elders of the people,” v.23 – official representatives of the unbelieving nation of Israel), the kingdom of God will be taken away from [or removed from] you and given [or entrusted or delegated] to a people (Christ’s disciples Jn.15:16 – official representatives of the believing remnant of nation of Israel – the Lord’s church), producing the fruit of it (fruits of the kingdom). 45 When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard His parables, they understood that He was speaking about them.
counted worthy of the kingdom of God
2 Thessalonians 1:5 “…to the end that ye (the elect 1Thes.1:4) may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer
An example of the Jews being unworthy
of the kingdom
Acts 13:45 But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy; and contradicting and blaspheming, they opposed the things spoken by Paul.46 Then Paul and Barnabas grew bold and said, "It was necessary that the word of God should be spoken to you first [the Jews v.45]; but since you reject it, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting age-lasting or kingdom life we turn to the Gentiles.
the kingdom was given to the Lord’s church
Luke 12:22, 32 And he (Jesus) said unto his disciples…32 Fear not, little flock (the remnant of believing Israel; Christ’s church); for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.
the church is the flock
Acts 20:28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves (the elders of the church v.17), and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.
the church is established on the apostles
Ephesians 2:19 Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God (“which is the church of the living God,” 1Tim.3:15), 20 having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone,
1 Corinthians 12:28 “And God hath set some in the church, first apostles…”
they were his chosen leaders
Luke 6:13 And when it was day, he called unto him his disciples: and of them he chose twelve, whom also he named apostles
the New Covenant was made with believing
jews – His Church
Luke 22:14,20 “…He (Jesus) sat down, and the twelve apostles with him. 20 …He took the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in My blood. 28 Ye are they which have continued with me in my temptations. 29 And, I, covenant unto you—as my Father hath covenanted unto me—a kingdom 30 That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
God did not set israel aside
Romans 11:25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.
Israel continued through the leadership
of the apostles in the church
Acts 2:37,41-42,47 Now when they (a remnant of all the house of Israel v.36) heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? 41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. 42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. 47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.
Jews were “cut off” if they did not
join Christ’s church
Acts 3:22-23 For Moses said, ‘The Lord your God will raise up for you (Israel) a prophet like me from among your own people (Jesus, the Christ); you must listen to everything he tells you. 23 Anyone who does not listen to him will be completely cut off from among his people.’
the Gentiles received the mysteries kingdom
Acts 11:1 And the apostles and brethren that were in Judaea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God (or “mysteries of the kingdom” Lk.8:10-11; Acts 14:27).
the gentiles “in Christ” have the Blessing
of Abraham
Galatians 3:13-14 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree",14 that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
ELECT Gentiles in the kingdom of heaven
Matthew 8:11 And I say unto you, That many (elect Gentiles) shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob (those to whom the covenant promise was given), in the kingdom of heaven.
