God’s Election Through The Seed Of Abraham (Part 4)
October 22, 2006
The Gentiles received the word of god
Acts 11:1,18 And the apostles and brethren (the Jewish remnant) that were in Judaea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God. 18 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life (in the kingdom).
the Things concerning the kingdom of god
Acts 8:12,14 But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. 14 Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God…”
The message of election
Acts 13:44 “…almost the whole city together to hear the word of God. 45 But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy, and spake against those things which were spoken by Paul, contradicting and blaspheming. 46 Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you (the Jews v.45 – Mt.10:5-7 – the gospel of the kingdom): but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting age-lasting life or kingdom life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles. 47 For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth. 48 And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to (or elected to)eternal age-lasting LIFE or kingdom life believed.
The words "everlasting" and "eternal" are translated from the Greek adjective aionios which would be more precisely translated "age-lasting." It is in the singular and not the plural, therefore, it is referring to one age, the Messianic age to come.
elect gentiles grafted into the remnant of israel
Romans 11:17 And if some (not all) of the branches (Israelites, after the flesh) were broken off (from the olive tree or the seed of Abraham – due to unbelief), and you (elect Gentiles, v.13), being a wild olive tree (not of the natural branches), were grafted in among them (the natural branches that remained in the olive tree by faith – the Israel of God, the true Israel, Abraham’s seed), and with them became a partaker of the root and fatness (the promises and blessings) of the olive tree (NKJ)
The remnant of Israel is the church
Acts 2:37,41-42,47 “…Peter and to the rest of the apostles …(official leaders of the Lord’s Church – representing the remnant of Israel, the true Israel) 41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto themabout three thousand souls. 42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. 47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.
elect Gentiles - Other sheep – ONE FLOCK
John 10:16 "And other sheep (elect Gentiles) I have which are not of this fold (the remnant of elect Israel); them (elect Gentiles) also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock andone shepherd.
both Elect Jew and elect Gentile are
one “in christ”
Ephesians 2:11-19 Wherefore remember, that ye (the faithful in Christ 1:1; chosen in Him 1:4, church in Ephesus) being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands; 12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world: 13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. 14 For he is our peace, who hath made both (Jew & Gentile) one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us (Jew & Gentile); 15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances (which made Israel as a nation distinct from the Gentiles); for to make in himself of two (Jew & Gentile) one new man, so making peace; 16 And that he might reconcile both (Jew & Gentile) unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby: 17 And came and preached peace to you (Gentiles) which were afar off, and to them (Jews) that were nigh. 18 For through him we both (Jew & Gentile) have access by one Spirit unto the Father. 19 Now therefore ye (Gentiles) are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God.
Abraham’s one seed is Christ
Galatians 3:16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.
“IN CHRIST” IS THE BLESSING OF ABRAHAM
Galatians 3:14 that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit [the inheritance] through faith.
the Churches “in Christ”
1 Corinthians 1:2 Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus
Galatians 1:22 And was unknown by face unto the churches of Judaea which were in Christ:
1 Thessalonians 1:1 Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy, To the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ
1 Thessalonians 2:14 For ye, brethren, became followers of the churches of God which in Judaea are in Christ Jesus
the churches “in Christ” = the israel of god
Galatians 6:15-16 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature. 16 And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God.
Christ’s body is the church
Ephesians 5:30-32 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. 31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. 32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
ONE BODY “IN CHRIST”
Romans 12:5 So we (at the church in Rome), though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.
Election is “in christ”
Ephesians 1:4 According as he hath chosen us (Jew and Gentile) in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love.
Election is in the church
Ephesians 5:27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
“in christ” by baptism “into christ”
Galatians 3:27-29 For as many of you (members in “the churches of Galatia,” 1:2) as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if (now since) you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
the one baptism
Ephesians 4:4-5 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; 5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
Matthew 28:19 "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
To believe the gospel of the kingdom
includes baptism
Acts 8:12 But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.
Believe – baptized - saved
Mark 16:15-16 “…Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
God works through the act of baptism
1 Corinthians 12:18 But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.
members of His body by baptism
1 Corinthians 12:12-13, 27-28 For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. 13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body -- whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free -- and have all been made to drink into one Spirit. 27 Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually. 28 And God has appointed these in the church
Salvation “in Christ” for the elect
2 Timothy 2:10-12 Therefore I endure all things for the elect’s sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal age-lasting glory. 11 It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him: 12 If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us (from salvation)
The overcomers are members of churches
Revelation 2:7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh…
outsiders
1 Corinthians 5:12 For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge? 13 God judges those outside. "Drive out the wicked person from among you."
Strive lawfully
2 Timothy 2:5 And if a man also strive for masteries [or if anyone competes as an athlete], yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully [unless he competes according to the rules].
Don’t establish your own righteousness
Romans 10:3 For they (unbelieving Israel) being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.
If you are “in Christ” be faithful!!
Ephesians 1:1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints which are at Ephesus, and to the faithful in Christ Jesus:
Your Calling and election is not sure
unless you make it sure!
2 Peter 1:10-11 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure [safe from danger; without any doubt]: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: 11 For so an entrance shall be ministered [provided or supplied] unto you abundantly into the everlasting age-lasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ
The kingdom is conditional for the chosen
Ephesians 5:5-6 For this ye (members of the church at Ephesus) know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. 6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
Matthew 22:14 For many are called, but few are chosen.
