they believed…The things concerning the kingdom of God
Acts 8:12,14  But when they believed Philip preaching the gospel, the things concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.14  And the apostles in Jerusalem hearing that Samaria had received the Word of God, they sent Peter and John to them;

Those “coming to Him” are all baptized
John 3:26 And they came to John and said to him, "Rabbi, He who was with you beyond the Jordan, to whom you have testified -- behold, He is baptizing, and all are coming to Him!"

The true Israelites were “coming to him”

Coming to Him is not without cost

Coming to Jesus for age-lasting life
John 5:39-40 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal age-lasting life [“glory and honor, and immortality,” Rom.2:7]: and they [the scriptures] are they which testify of me. 40 And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.

He has the words of age-lasting life
John 6:68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal age-lasting life.

The rock or the stone is christ
Deuteronomy 32:4 He is the Rock, His work is perfect; For all His ways are justice, A God of truth and without injustice; Righteous and upright is He.

Deuteronomy 32:18 Of the Rock that begat thee thou art unmindful, and hast forgotten God that formed thee.

1 Corinthians 10:4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ

A stone rejected by men
1 Peter 2:4 Coming to Him [Jesus] as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious (Nkj)

Rejected by the leaders of Israel
Mark 8:31 And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.
Rejected by his own people
Luke 17:25 But first must he suffer many things, and be rejected of this generation.

John 1:11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.

Chosen and precious by God
1 Peter 2:4 Coming to Him [Jesus] as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but [in contrast] chosen [elected] by God and precious (Nkj)

Isaiah 42:1 "Behold, My Servant, whom I uphold; My chosen one in whom My soul delights. I have put My Spirit upon Him; He will bring forth justice to the nations. (Mt.12:17)

the elect are also as Living stones
1 Peter 2:5 Ye [elect pilgrims 1:1] also, as lively stones, are being built up [present passive indicative] into a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
the church is a spiritual house
1 Timothy 3:15 But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the churchof the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

The Lord builds His church
Acts 2:41,47 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. 47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

Jesus is foundational rock of His church
Matthew 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

1 Corinthians 3:11 For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

Being built up by abiding in the spiritual house
Acts 9:31 So the church throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria had peace and was built up; and walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit it was multiplied.

the chief cornerstone

A holy priesthood
1 Peter 2:5 you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

Spiritual sacrifices by a holy lifestyle
1 Peter 1:14-16 As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: 15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; 16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

GOD LAID THE CORNERSTONE
1Peter 2:6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I [the Lord God] lay [or place] in Zion a chief corner stone, elect, precious:

Honor not shame for those that believeth on the stone
1 Peter 2:6b-7a “…and he that believeth [present active participle] on him [Christ, the stone] shall not be confounded [put to shame]. 7 Therefore, to you [living stones v.5] who believe [present active participle], He is precious [or honor];

The disobedient stumble over the stone
1 Peter 2:7b –8 “…but to those who are disobedient [present active participle], "The stone [the Messiah] which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone [of the churches of Christ]," 8 and "A stone of stumbling And a rock of offense." They stumble [present active indicative], being disobedient [present active participle] to the word [the word of God 1:23; the gospel v.25], to which they also were appointed.

the builders: unbelieving israel
Acts 4:8-11 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, "Rulers of the people and elders of Israel: 9 "If we this day are judged for a good deed done to a helpless man, by what means he has been made well, 10 "let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole. 11 "This is the 'stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.'

the wrath of god
John 3:36 "He who believes [present active participle] in the Son [the stone] has eternal age-lasting life [in the age to come, Mk.10:30; honor, glory and immortality Rom.2:7]; but he who does not obey the Son [the stone] shall not see [or experience] life, but the wrath of God abides on him."

Romans 2:8 But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,
