2 Peter 2:12-13
October 23, 2008
2 Peter 2:12-13 But these [false teachers v1], as natural [Physical, instinctive] brute [unreasonable, irrational] beasts [animals], made [be born] to be taken [capture] and destroyed [corruption, perish], speak evil [blaspheme, defame, rail on, revile] of the things that they understand not [whose worth and value they cannot appreciate]; and shall utterly perish [to spoil entirely] in their own corruption; 13 And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots theyare and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you;
THE NATURAL MAN
1 Corinthians 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God [things to come Jn.16:13]: for they are foolishness [silliness, absurdity, insignificant] unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned [perceived after careful investigation].
THE THINGS = THINGS TO COME
John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, [that] shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
THE THINGS WHICH GOD HATH PREPARED
1 Corinthians 2:9-10 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. 10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
THE KINGDOM IS PREPARED
Matthew 25:34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
GOD HAS PREPARED A CITY
Hebrews 11:16 But now they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.
Revelation 21:2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
FOOLISHNESS
Psalms 73:3,17,22 For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.17 Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end. 22 So foolish was I, and ignorant: I was as a beast before thee.
NATURAL MAN VS SPIRITUAL MAN
Hebrews 12:16 Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.
Matthew 13:45-46 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: 46 Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.
EVIL MEN UNDERSTAND NOT JUDGMENT
Proverbs 28:5 Evil men understand not judgment: but they that seek the LORD understand all things.
THEY UNDERSTAND NOT
Romans 1:19-21 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. 20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: 21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God [Judge], neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
THEIR MINDS ARE ON THINGS WHICH ARE SEEN
2 Corinthians 4:18 While our mindsare not on the things which are seen, but on the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are for a time [of this age]; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
MIND EARTHY THINGS
Philippians 3:19 Whose end is destruction [to perish in the age to come], whose God is their belly [natural man], and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.
WREST THE SCRIPTURES
2 Peter 3:16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other Scriptures, unto their own destruction.
DANGER OF ETERNAL DAMNATION
Matthew 12:32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh [blasphemy] against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come. [Mark 3:29 .. but is in danger of eternal damnation:]
END IS TO BE BURNED
Hebrews 6:4-8 For [it is] impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, 5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, 6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put [him] to an open shame. 7 For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God: 8 But that which beareth thorns and briers [is] rejected, and [is] nigh unto cursing; whose end [is] to be burned.
THEY WILL REAP CORRUPTION
Galatians 6:7-8 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; [Gk-phthora] but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
2 PETER 2:13
2 Peter 2:13 And shall receive the rewardof unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure [hedone- hedonism] to riot [live delicately Luke 7:25] in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you;
DUE PUNISHMENT
Colossians 3:24-25 Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance; for ye serve the Lord Christ. 25 But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done; and there is no respect of persons.
RESURRECTION OF DAMNATION
John 5:29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
PLEASURES OF THIS LIFE
Luke 8:14 And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.
IN THE DAY TIME
1 Thessalonians 5:7-8 For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night. 8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for a helmet, the hope of salvation.
ENEMIES OF THE CROSS OF CHRIST
Philippians 3:18-19 For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: 19 Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly [pleasures of this life], and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.
THEY CHOOSE PLEASURE RATHER THEN TO SUFFER
Hebrews 11:24-25 By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter; 25 Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; 26 Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompense of the reward.
SPOTS AND BLEMISHES
James 3:6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity; so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the wholebody, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.
SPORTING THEMSELVES
2 Peter 2:13Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you;
Jude 1:12 These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselveswithout fear:
NO DREAD OF THE JUDGMENTS OF GOD
Isaiah 56:11-12 Yes, the dogs are for ever looking for food; while these, the keepers of the sheep, are without wisdom: they have all gone after their pleasure, every one looking for profit; they are all the same. 12 Come, they say, I will get wine, and we will take strong drink in full measure; and tomorrow will be like today, full of pleasure.(BBE)
